Trustee, Treasurer for Space4Autism

About the opportunity

We require a treasurer to manage our accounts – with or without bookkeeping (we can cover it elsewhere if necessary). Our main activities are the running of the Space Centre (rented building) and the clubs (largely funded by East Cheshire Council). Funds also come from various fund raising activities and grant applications – as treasurer you may get involved, depending on your interest. Most of the trustees are parents / carers of people on the autism spectrum; but we would welcome applications from people not directly related to people on the spectrum as we want to broaden the experience of our board of trustees. The charity is currently in a growth period as many new activities are commencing on the back of the very successful clubs. Our Treasurer will be expected to give regular statements of budgets and prepare the annual statement of accounts (help is available). We have about 9 staff including a charity manager and the payroll is managed by a local accountancy company. We have two bank accounts: one primarily used for managing the costs of running the building and the other for receiving donations; as well as PayPal and JustGiving accounts. Bookkeeping is under discussion. It has historically been done by the treasurer, but we might either contract it out or find a second volunteer. It largely depends on the new treasurer. We estimate a commitment of circa one day per month. Selection for this role is by informal discussion and interview Applicants are required to give contact details of two persons whom we can ask for a reference. For this role you will be required to undertake a DBS check. The minimum age for volunteers for this role is 18.

About Space4Autism

We listen. We help. We Care. Space 4 Autism is a local, volunteer led charity, set up by parents, to support children and families affected by Autism. Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It affects how they make sense of the world around them. They often struggle to communicate with and understand other people. This means that taking part in everyday family and social life may be difficult for them. We support the whole family by holding monthly parent support meetings/ workshops and events. We offer clubs for all ages (toddlers to adults), regular activities including movie nights, short trips, visits to attractions and activities in our Space Centre, for example a computer games weekend.

What are they looking for?

We are always delighted to hear from anyone interested in supporting our work. However for this role, the following skills would be desirable: • Good with numbers, attention to detail and financial awareness. • Use of Microsoft Excel is assumed (though training could be given). • DBS checks will be required as the charity includes caring for children.
