The course provides an introduction to the SAS methodology and its application with children and adults on the autistic spectrum. It is suitable for parents and those who have practical experience in providing special needs interventions or support.
Course overview:
1. Improving Sensory Processing to ease Daily Life:
Many children and adults on the autistic spectrum have great difficulty coping in busy noisy environments, often leading to melt-downs or withdrawal. Steven will highlight how we process information through the five senses and offer practical advice on how to strengthen sensory processing and thus achieve real improvements in daily life.
2. Activating Communication Potential:
Speech is considered to be the main way people communicate with each other and critical to success in life. When a child displays delay or difficulties in speech development parents will understandably be worried. This is an area of specific interest to Steven and he has worked with hundreds of children and adults to offer practical support to activate their communication potential and make a real change in their lives.
3. Developing Presence and Attention:
Children on the autistic spectrum often have poor eye contact, limited interactions with peers or adults, and at times will retract within themselves, closing themselves off from the outside world. Steven will demonstrate simple activities that parents can do with their children to improve eye contact, interaction and non-verbal negotiation and communication.
4. Applying the SAS Methodology:
Discover a practical way to improve sensory integration and speech development without the need for cooperation, attention, following instructions or physical exercises. Learn how to apply SAS neuro-sensory listening courses at a SAS Centre, at school or support group, or at home.
Time allowing, Steven Michaëlis will be available immediately after the course to talk on a confidential one-to-one basis to parents and carers to discuss individual concerns and needs. Please pre-book your free appointment as these are allocated on a first-come-first serve basis.
