We have received the below from The Urgent Support Team wo are looking for feedback on sensory experiences in A&E.

Hi,
I am contacting you on behalf of the Urgent Support Team, spearheading a ‘Beyond’ funded project. The initiative aims to enhance the accessibility of NHS Paediatric Accident and Emergency Departments in the Countess of Chester Hospital, Wirral University Teaching Hospital (Arrow Park), Macclesfield District General Hospital, and Leighton Hospital for children / young people with sensory and communication needs.

We are seeking volunteers (neurodivergent young people aged 8-16) to complete a walk-through with a member of our team in their local Paediatric Accident and Emergency Department. We want to gather real-time oral feedback on their sensory experiences to inform our project plans. The deadline for registering interest is March 29th, 2024.

We understand that emergency departments can cause high levels of distress. We advise only those who can tolerate the environment and articulate their experiences to volunteer at their parent / carer’s discretion.

We have provided an alternative for those who may find a walk-through challenging. Attached are posters with QR codes for young person / carer surveys. These can be filled out retrospectively by young people or parents/carers on their behalf or alongside them. The corresponding links are also included:

We would appreciate it if you disseminated these to the children and young people you support/parents and carers, where appropriate.
