The Story

To say this was a difficult challenge was an understatement, the weather forecast however did say that it would brighten up around 11am so in the muddy car park we decided “lets go for it” not realising just how the weather would turn as we climbed the 1st peak Pen-y-Ghent

It was horizontal rain and wind all the way to the top with many skilled climbers taking the decision not to carry on – but like the troopers (or mad group) that we were we kept going.  When we reached the summit you couldn’t see a thing, we huddled behind a wall with the other brave soles to empty out our boots and wring out our socks!!! wow what an achievement.  We decided to carry on with our mission but as the day wore on it became obvious we were not going to be able to complete all 3 peaks so we stuck with just 2.  At one point after walking over “bog moor” and boy was it a bog – rick had to be pulled out at one point by Adam! we came across a river which on the map had said “steam” and to go over the stepping stones – however, with the heavy rain fall it was a torrent! we had no choice but to wade through it – out boots were already full of water so what the heck! when we got to the other side we fell about laughing and couldn’t believe what we had had to do.

At some point many hours later  (don’t ask me where we were as I had no idea!) we met up with some Paratroopers who were doing the 40:40 which was 40miles with a 40lb back pack and they told us that even 8 teams out the 30 that were doing it had already pulled out so at this point we knew it was time to head back the 8miles from where we had started.

Got undressed in the muddy car park as at this stage non of us cared we just had visions of that pint (glass of wine) waiting for us at the nearby pub

what a fantastic experience and I am so proud of the fab 4, we kept our spirits up and had so many laughs along the way – thank you so much to Nadia for thinking up this mad challenge and thank you to all those who donated to the cause, we never thought we would raise anywhere near £1k it was all well worth every minute.

here are some pictures of the day hope you like them.
