“Neuro-Nomad. The story of hidden autism”

Presented by Stasia Gibbs-Lewis

(a female on Autistic Spectrum)

“As the understanding of autism is starting to slowly grow in the public domain there still remains a section of the autistic community that is still largely invisible and is all too often vastly misunderstood. The female autist.

I am a Mother of an autistic boy, and a wife, a friend, a colleague and all seems quite ‘normal’ on the surface – but at the age of 33years old I was diagnosed with autism.

But why was I diagnosed so late? Esp when my own Son was diagnosed appropriately early at pre-school age? Why did I spot the signs of autism in my Son but not in myself for so long?

In this often brutally honest, no holds barred talk I will share with you my journey from neuro-nomad to autism diagnosis and finally finding ‘my tribe!’ I will be lifting the lid on why women are so often reaching adulthood before their autism is detected. Even by themselves!

I will also share with you the pitfalls and the triumphs along the journey an undiagnosed woman will take to late diagnosis. And of course, post diagnosis: what happens then?”
