We are delighted to announce that our bid to run an autism-specific free school in Church Lawton, Cheshire East has been successful.

The Department for Education has given us approval to move into the pre-opening phase of the process, and although there is still some way to go, this marks a significant step in our journey.

The Church Lawton School as it will be known, will provide specialist education for up to 60 pupils and will open its doors in September 2014. It will address the increasing demand for autism-specific education in Cheshire East that the local council has identified.

We will be working closely with local parents, the council, special and mainstream schools, and other local stakeholders, to ensure the school is successfully embedded into the community. Over the coming months we will carry out further local consultation and announce further details of our plans.

Please forward this email to anyone else who you think may be interested. If they would like to be kept up-to-date on the developments or share their thoughts on the school, they can register their interest on our online form.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our application.

From

Jane Vaughan – NAS

Note:  Jane is coming along to our July Space4Autism meeting to let parents/carers know all about the school – more information soon.
