Hello Everyone,

We hope that you are all enjoying the half term and hopefully the good weather will last!

You may have noticed that our name has changed from ‘Parent Partnership’ to ‘Cheshire East Information, Advice and Support’, this is inline with the national changes that came in with the new SEN (special education needs) code of practice in September 2015.

You are welcome to call us ‘CEIAS’ for short as it is rather a lengthy title!

We have had some staff changes to our team, Liz retired at Christmas and hopefully is enjoying all her free time as a lady of leisure!  The team is now being co-managed by Karen & Gemma. Diane, Penny, Julie, Sue, Helen, Yvonne and Lenn are all qualified to provide ‘Independent Support’  to parents ,for any applications for ‘a needs assessment for an education, health and care plan’, the new process that replaces statements of SEN. The team is also able to advise, support and signpost families with other types of support that you might need in relation to your child / young person’s education.

We are operating phone duty daily, meaning you should be able to speak to a human being rather than the machine most days between 10am and 2pm … please call the team on 0300 123 5166

Should you encounter the machine, do please leave a brief message with your name and number and we will call you back as soon as we can, as we could be busy on another line when you call.

If you prefer emails – please contact us at ceias@cheshireeast.gov.uk

Central Cheshire Buddy Scheme (CCBS) is a voluntary not for profit organisation. Established in 2004 CCBS supports children and young people with disabilities, their families and their siblings through activity clubs, holiday clubs and residential breaks. CCBS currently runs 6 activity groups, supporting over 100 young people and their families

The SATURDAY CLUB in Crewe and Macclesfield. A general club for all children and young people with disabilities. A chance to meet friends and play in a safe environment, as well as get involved in some of the activities- cookery, crafts, dance, BIG ball games, wheelchair basketball to name just a few.

The ADVENTURE TEENS (an out and about group) in Crewe and Macclesfield. This is aimed at the older children and aims to get them away from the centre with day trips and visits- Crewe Fire Station, Snowdome, Ironbridge

There is also a weekly YOUTH CLUB at Shavington Youth Centre, Tuesday 7-9pm. This is run by Cheshire Youth Service, supported by CCBS members of staff

The ONE:ONE CLUB – Busy Buddies (for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties). Sessions run once a month 1-4pm. The group often visit the special Adventure Playground in Newcastle-under-Lyme, go swimming in Alsager or track cycling in Manchester. We have successfully run a ONE:ONE CLUB in Crewe for the past 5 years. We have received funding to start a similar club in Macclesfield and you can obtain more details by contacting Louise Bailey 07938163103 or email cheshirebuddies@outlook.com

In addition, there is the SIBLINGS GROUP for the brothers and sisters of a disabled child. The aim of the group is to provide the young people with a break from their caring responsibilities and to offer support through trips and activities- canoeing, ice skating, watching football at the Etihad Stadium.

And finally there is the CARERS GROUP. We are aware that many parents and carers find it difficult to cope on a day to day basis. The demands of caring can be immense, exhausting and at times even overwhelming. The group aims to provide short, but well-earned breaks from the role of caring – chat and chill over a cup of coffee, go for a guided walk in Macclesfield Forest, have a manicure/pedicure, go for a swim and also enjoy lunch together.

A Carers Group, based at Springfield School In Crewe was launched at the beginning of May and we have now launched a similar club in Macclesfield. The activities for each group will be very much determined by the group and we are keen to hear from anyone who is interested in joining.

If you are interested in any of the above groups and require more information please contact : Stephanie Lawley: 07873423389  or Louise Bailey: 07938163103

Alternatively please email : cheshirebuddies@outlook.com    or  slawley@btinternet.com

Lots of parents/carers find attending coffee mornings organised by the Cheshire Carers centre a really helpful way of accessing information and networking with other parents. If you are feeling isolated and would like to meet other parents that might be going through similar issues with their child/young person with SEN/additional needs or a disability, why not visit one of the coffee mornings. They are really informal and everyone is really friendly ,you can always take a friend along for moral support.
